Feeling "old".

Not me personally. Just trying to recreate the look of "old".

Mud Sale

I live in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. One thing we are known for is our large population of "Old Order Amish" people. Yes, these are the folks who avoid the modern conveniences that most of us enjoy. No cars (only horse drawn buggies), no electricity, no telephones, no buttons or zippers in their clothing. We have about 30,000 Amish neighbors in the county.

A friend and I visited a "Mud Sale" today. What is that, you ask? It's a large springtime sale and auction of everything from farm equipment and horses to antiques and quilts. I'll give you a guess why it's calles a Mud Sale (consider the season and probability of certain weather trends).

I would estimate that there were more than a thousand Amish folks at this event. I tried to be discreet as I photographed. Photographs of the Amish are considered "graven images" in their view. Just the same, this was a very public event and including them in some shots seemed appropriate and within the bounds of acceptability.

Here's one shot of an auctioneer selling goods to an interested crowd.

When I do my PS work on these, I'll post a link to the rest. I'm leaving on a business trip tomorrow so it will be a few days from now.

42nd Street night action

"Come and meet those dancing feet,
On the avenue I'm taking you to,
Forty-Second Street.
Hear the beat of dancing feet,
It's the song I love the melody of,
Forty-Second Street.

Little "nifties" from the Fifties,
Innocent and sweet;
Sexy ladies from the Eighties,
Who are indiscreet.

They're side by side, they're glorified
Where the underworld can meet the elite,
Forty-Second Street."

MY PRIZE ARRIVED

Pardon this shamless self-promotion:
For those who didn't know, I was one of the 1st Prize winners in Nikon's Moving Moments photo contest. That was the contest associated with the Nikon TV commercial with Ashton Kutcher shooting pictures with his Nikon D60 (he was pretending to be a wedding photographer in the commercial). There were 29,000 entries into the contest and I was one of the 60 winners of a Nikon D60 kit.

I already have a Nikon D300 and D70s, so one of my daughters will be the recipient of my prize. And her Nikon D40 will go to one of my other daughters. Happy family!

Here's a link to my winning shot . . .
